    Having read three of his books this year I can say that Adam Johnson is my favorite contemporary author His stories are never conventional sometimes venturing deep into the weird where the resulting reaction could vary from laughter to strong dislike But what I come back to his stories for is the compassion and kindness to his characters and their troubles which are always present in his voice Emporium for me was not as great as Johnsonâ€
